Meeting in Colts Neck, Monmouth County, New Jersey

Monmouth Camera Club

Our club provides a forum and gathering place for amateur and professional photographers, at all levels of accomplishment. It allows members to share their experiences, to increase their photographic knowledge, to obtain new stimulation for their photographic activities, and to make new friends.

The Monmouth Camera Club was founded in 1979 and  meets in Colts Neck at the Reformed Church on Route 537. Its meetings take place on the second and fourth Thursday of every month, from September through early June at 7:30 PM. The club belongs to the New Jersey Federation of Camera Clubs and currently has about 75 members.

The meetings provide a balance between lectures, discussions, competitions and field trips.

Lectures and discussions span a wide range of topics. Most speakers are highly accomplished photographers or are professionals from outside the club. (A list of previous lecture topics can be found on the "Get Involved" page.) Increasing interest in Digital Photography and Digital Enhancement of images is reflected in both the lecture topics and the contests.

The meetings also provide members an opportunity to receive help on photographic questions or on buying and selling photographic equipment. They also inform about other photographic events outside the club.

Competitions are held for color slides, color prints, black-and-white prints and digitally enhanced prints. By separating beginning, advanced and salon photographers, the contests allow members to compare their work and compete with others at their own level of accomplishment. A major objective in the competitions is to receive constructive critiques from the judge.

Three times a year, the club also holds a "Beginners' Small Print Critique", where new members and guests can obtain feedback on their photographs before they are ready to participate in the more formal competitions.
